Contributions or gifts to the SCOA are not tax deductible as charitable contributions for income tax purposes. They may be tax deductible, however, as ordinary and necessary business expenses, subject to restrictions imposed as a result of association lobbying activities.
The South Carolina Optometric Association estimates that the nondeductible portion of your 2009 annual SCOA dues, the portion which is allocable to lobbying, will be reported in The Delineator.
The American Optometric Association estimates that the nondeductible portion of your 2009 AOA annual dues, the portion which is allocable to lobbying is 12.0%.
